I WANT TO KNOW!
In the Fall 2009 line-up we are introducing a new feature to our bi-monthly meetings.
The addition is “I Want to Know!’ and is based on the premise that many of us as novice stamp collectors – and I am sure we outnumber those who are expertly knowledgeable – have questions about stamp collecting which may seem silly, but keep us in doubt. For example: I exhibit and find fabulous postcards that would give my page oomph; however, I am told postcards are not philatelic material, or so I assumed until I said: “I want to know “ and then I got an answer from 3 different club members who have been exhibiting much longer than I.
When I submit an exhibit in the topical class and they change it to the thematic class, then I am baffled and I say: “ I want to know what the difference is between topical and thematic” and rest assured somebody stamp-smarter than me sets me straight.
So, we have added this to our meetings agenda and promising anyone of who asks “Iwant to know . . . . .” that they will either get an immediate answer or a meeting at the next meeting after an expert has researched it.
It has rightfully been suggested by our vice president and future OPS president that we place the question: “I want to Know!” and invite our web-visitors to ask any questions they have about stamp collecting – please, we do not consider ourselves knowledgeable on every topic so restrict your questions to philatelic and we will try to reply before the month is over.
